Snow“I’m going to entertain for two more years. After that, I’m going to start doing some real goodness, real charity, real helping,” rapper Snow tells Samaritanmag.

Having grown up in Toronto’s Allenbury Gardens housing projects, the 45-year-old always has charity at the back of his mind from helping disadvantaged kids in his old ‘hood to nurturing the artistic potential of inmates, something he wants to do next.

But now he is doing something else that hits close to home.

All of the proceeds from his long-awaited new single “Shame” — featuring reggae legend Mykal Rose (Black Uhuru) and produced by Kent Jones and Cool & Dre — goes to the U.S.-based Karen E. Mumford Cancer Foundation (KEM) in honour of his late wife.

“Tamei passed away five years ago. It just came out of nowhere. We knew for like two weeks,” says Snow, whose real name is Darrin O’Brien.

Tamei Edberg died of uterine cancer just after receiving the terrible news. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, it is the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs but unfortunately in Tamei’s case was diagnosed too late and wasn’t able to be treated.

SnowThe international reggae industry is buzzing with talk about the return of Canadian artiste Daddy Snow to the dancehall game with the single, Shame, after a 15-year hiatus.

Produced by Florida-based Kent Jones and Cool & Dre, Shame was recorded with former Black Uhuru singer, Mykal Rose.

“It is a song really about where I have been in my life emotionally. I have been far away and I just expressed it in this single,” the 44-year-old veteran said. He recently released a video for the project which is the first single from a work-in-progress EP.

But Daddy Snow is not just focusing solely on music, he participates in philanthropic activities as well. Herecently cemented a partnership with the cancer organisation Karen E. Tamei Edberg Dies Of Cancer

Tamei EdbergOn friday, 27th November 2009 Tamei Edberg sadly passed away after being diagnosed with uterine cancer. Her sudden and untimely death has come as a complete shock to all who knew her.

Tamei was the long time partner of Snow (real name Darrin O’Brien,) and the mother of his fourteen year old daughter, Justuss. She was an inspiration to all who she came into contact with, and was dedicated to Snow’s career and his fans, which, because of this, I was fortunate enough to have known her personally.

Uterine cancer, or cancer of the uterus (womb) usually begins in the cells that make up the lining of the uterus (endometrium).

Cancers of the uterus are often referred to as endometrial cancer because this term helps to distinguish it from other cancers that can affect the female reproductive system, such as cervical or ovarian cancer.

Endometrial cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer of the female reproductive system. It is the fourth most common cancer that affects women, after breast cancer, lung cancer and cancer of the colon and rectum.

Sadly, Tamei’s diagnosis came too late for any treatment to be effective.
